WPC held successfully in Pune, India
The 11th World Spice Congress (WPC) was held successfully in Pune,
India from February, 9 to 11.
This year's congress was based on the theme "Sustainability and food
safety - global initiatives", to address the challengers of
sustainability and food safety. The World Spice Congress Exhibition was
held along with the business session. The exhibition showcased
capacities and capabilities of the spice companies to prospective
clients.
Over 200 international delegates and 300 delegates from India
attended. Under the theme "sustainability and food safety - global
initiatives" the 11th Congress deliberated and set the momentum that
will have long lasting effects on the patterns of the global spice
trade. Eminent speakers shared their experience and expertise to guide
the industry towards a sustainable future. Sustainability and food
safety are two challenges that confront the industry, threatening its
very existence. The majority of spice producers and exporters are unable
to meet the fast changing standards set by the importing countries. The
criteria governing these standards differ from one country to the other.
The congress would address the need to standardise these rules.
Intercom Group Companies and the Spice Council Chairman Sarada De
Silva presented a paper on "Supply chain challenges for producers"
during the third business session held on February 11.
