Many youngsters enter the limelight to prove their mettle in the arts
stream but Anura Pradeep is not the kind of vocalist that you come
across every day.
The old boy of Ananda National School, Chilaw, managed to win music
lovers’ hearts by bringing a set of unique songs to the field through
‘Hitha Ridena Duk Geeya’. He cashed on his success by following it up
with the music video of ‘Re Ahase’ last year. He believes that variety
is the key to his success. “Each of my songs is different from the
other. I started off with ‘Adarayak’ with Aruna Thamel in 2006. It was
popular among my friends and motivated me to embark on a tuneful
journey. I experimented with various types of melodies and came up with
a collection of diverse styles. That had been my formula of success,”
said the youth who had proven that variety is the spice of life through
his music.
His talents are not limited to vocals alone. He had studied playing
the key board and learnt music from Fr Katuneriye Vanses. The result was
‘Hitha Ridena Duk Geeya’. The song was penned by Upul Priyankara and
composed by Nalinda Kashyapa. Mahinda Bandara set it to music.
“I wanted to try my hand at something totally different after ‘Hitha
Ridena Duk Geeya’. I composed ‘Re Ahase’ to prove that my talents are
not limited to one style of music. Prageeth Wijesuriya penned the song.
Dilshan provided the sounds. Vidharshana was in charge of the graphic
and video editing. I directed the video,” he explained.
