Latha sings for a worthy causec

Many modern day music enthusiasts may not be familiar with her voice
or name. Latha Disanayake is a name that was embedded into the local
music field in the 1980s.

The vocalists who had delivered many evergreen tunes like ‘Ruwan
Ambara Semara Salana’ and ‘Sathuta Senasum Suve Bala’ is back in the
country after battling and triumphing over a deadly disease, cancer. Not
to be outwitted by the disease she found therapy in her music while
following doctor’s orders. She held ‘Sanda Kiranin’ shows thrice in
Canada and has even launched her own dance troupe.
A student of Sisira Senaratne and Dharmadasa Walpola, Latha is also a
talented dancer. Panibaratha was her dance teacher and she soon excelled
in the field and took to teaching the subject.
She became a part of the dance troupe of the Sri Lankan Navy and
performed dance items in several countries.
Her next stop was acting. She began her acting stint in Premasiri
Khemadasa’s ‘Kele Mal’ opera and later performed in creations like
‘Kurulu Bedda’, ‘Suhada Divi Piduma’ and ‘Suhada Sohoyuro’.
Now she will be staging her first ‘Sanda Kiranin’ show in Sri Lanka
at the BMICH on February 19 at 6.30 pm. In the fourth in the series,
Latha will be joined by artistes Priyankara Perera, Ishak Beigh, Keerthi
Pasquel and Dhammika Wijeratne.
Chandana Wickramasinghe and his dance troupe will provide dance
items. The music is handled by Samantha Perera. All the income of ‘Sanda
Kiranin 4’ will go to the Cancer Hospital.
