Massive liquor haul detected in Kalutara

Excise Sleuths raided 11 hotels and restaurants from several areas in the Kalutara district which sold liquor on the Poya Day.

Excise OIC Dheera Gunesekera said that some hotels did not even possess a valid license to sell liquor. During the raids officers had seized 39000 ml of beer, 9000 ml of arrack and 7200 ml of wine. The owners of the hotels too were arrested along with the liquor they sold following the raids.

The hotels were located in Aluthgama, Kalutara, Beruwela, Moragalla and Kaluwamodera. OIC Gunesekera said that some hotels were engaged in the practice of selling liquor for higher prices when there was a ban ,such as, on Poya days and added that raids to nab such offenders would be intensified on such days.
