Over 60 percent work at Jaffna teaching hospital building complete

The Health Ministry has accelerated the construction of the new
administration building of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital launched at a
cost of Rs.2877 million. Over 60 per cent of the construction work has
already been completed. Japan International Corporation Agency (JAICA)
funds this project, a Health Ministry spokesman said. The project is
launched under the 'Uthuru Wasanthaya' programme.
According to the spokesman, Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena
inspected the constructions of the new building complex recently and
ordered the Japanese company which handles the constructions to complete
the construction work on schedule. The project for improving the central
functions of the Jaffna Teaching Hospital is to be completed within 21
months. The funds came as an outright grant from JICA and the Japanese
government.
A new OPD, three ICUs, surgical wards, theatre complex, rest rooms
for health staff, accident ward, laboratory services unit, central
supplies and sterilizing department, central laboratory complex, central
facilities for diagnostic imaging, procurement and installation of
medical equipment and other facilities included in the new five stored
building.
Around 559,000 people living in the Jaffna and Mulaitivu districts
will benefit from this project. The hospital will provide various
services to people living in Kilinochchi and its suburbs. |
