Wesley in commanding position against Royal

Wesley College were in a commanding position at the end of the first
day’s play in their under 19 inter school cricket match against Royal
College for the Sir Frank Gunasekara Shield at Campbell Park yesterday.
Royal, taking first lease of the wicket, were bundled out for paltry
89 runs in 44.5 overs with Anupa Thilakeratne( 25 not out) being the
only batsman to offer any resistance. The wreckers were Right arm medium
paceman Sadeem Thawfeeq (five for 17) and left arm leg spinner Sachin
Jayawardena (three for 20)
Wesley College in reply , scored 214 for seven wickets by the close
in 48 overs helped by two fine knocks by Ashail Kariyawasam and left
hander skipper Ashen Fonseka (79 not out) inclusive of 11 hits to the
rope. Left arm leg spinner Devin Pathmanathan (four for 62 ) was the
only Royal bowler to impress yesterday.
The match will resume today at 9.30.

Nalanda College maintained its supremacy in the inter-schools under
19 cricket tournament scoring 274 for nine(declared) against Kalutara MV
at Panagoda Yesterday.
Nalanda made 274 for nine in 85.1 overs .A fine knock of 80 runs were
made by left hander Ishan Rangana inclusive of 10 boundaries with a six
while right hander Lahiru Jayakody contributed with 66 runs.Left arm
pacee Vinuth Rasinda restricted Nalanda innings bagging four wickets for
27 with Nimesh Madushan (three for 78).
In reply ,Kalutara MV were 16 for two at close.

Left arm spinner Shivane Alirajah of St Joseph’s College bagged a
five wicket haul ( five for 17 ) in the under 19 inter school match
against St.Benedict’s College at Kotahena yesterday.
St.Joseph’s College won the toss and put St.Benedict’s College to bat
first.St Benedict’s College were 198 in 84.5 overs. Jason Perera helped
Benedictines with 46 runs well supported by Janidu Karunathilake. Left
arm spinner Shivane Allrajah (five for 17) was the most impressive among
the wreckers with Yashan Samarasinghe (three for 32).
Joes were 46 for one at close .

The former Sri Lanka Schools under 15 skipper Kusul Mendis hit up a
scintillating unbeaten 159 runs including 23 fours, enabled Prince of
Wales College to be in the box seat in their inter-school under 19
tournament cricket match against Joseph Vaz College, Wennappuwa, played
at Moratuwa.
Earlier visitors were bowled out for a paltry 95 runs.
