The people resettled in the North will not fall prey to the
machinations of critics who downgrade the facilities provided them for
mere political advantage, said Resettlement Minister Gunaratne Weerakoon
at a ceremony held to mark the re-settlement of 207 families in
Kombavil, Pudukuduirippu, Mullaitivu recently.
Minister Weerakoon said certain interested parties were trying to
upset the minds of the re-settled people arguing that they had been
re-settled in jungle areas without allowing them to return to their
original places of residence. They were resorting to such tactics for
petty gain rather than true concern for the displaced. The President had
directed his ministry to provide all facilities needed by the resettled
people to enable them lead happy and peaceful lives.
The Resettlement Ministry will do everything within its means to
provide the best of facilities to resettled families in stages.
The minister said the new resettled village has been set up in an
area in extent of 600 acres with drinking water and other sanitation
facilities. Each house cost Rs 285,000.
He said the majority of the people in the North especially youth
uphold their cultural values and standards in their day to day lives.
