Plantation development project launched

The North Central Provincial Agriculture Department launched a crop
plantation development project simultaneously at the Deyata Kirula-2012
programme. The Provincial Department spent around Rs.22 million on this
project.
They have established plantations in 22 rural villages in the
Anuradhapura district and each Divisional Secretariat received one
plantation value of Rs.100,000 through the programme. The Provincial
Agriculture Department has given instructions to plant paddy in 10 acres
in each selected village and they are to plant these paddy according to
the parachute system. In addition to that the steps had taken to plant
number of crop verities as the additional crops.
As well as all measures are in place to produce big onion seeds in
each village and they have planted 16,000 kilos of big onions with the
aim of having a harvest of 5,500 kilos per year.
