Tree planting campaign within Parliament premises



Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa, Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane and Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi at the tree planting campaign.

Underutilized endemic fruit tree planting programme was launched recently at the Parliament premises under the patronage of Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa and Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane.

Fruit trees, such as Dan, Madan, Sapathilla, Mora, Naminan and Lovi were planted at the Parliament premises with the objective of educating the people of the vitality of the plants.

According to the idea of Agriculture Minister Mahinda Yapa Abeywardane, the Agriculture Ministry, Agriculture Development Unit and the Agriculture Department started the programme.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkodi, Agriculture Ministry Secretary W.Sakalasooriya, Additional Secretary Shantha Amitiyagoda, Assistant Secretary H G G J Dharmasena, Agriculture Department Director General K N Mankotte and many other distinguished people participated.
