Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa laid the foundation
stone for a resort for local tourists to be constructed by the Sri Lanka
Tourism Development Authority at the Anuradhapura Tourist Board on
February 5.
The local tourist resort will have 80 rooms and is being constructed
with all facilities. The amount to be spent for the resort is Rs 300
million.
A large number of foreign and local tourists arrive in Anuradhapura
after the war ended.
Appointment letters for employment provided by Sri Lanka Institute of
Tourism and Hotel Management were presented by the minister to over 100
youths in the Anuradhapura district at the ceremony.
A training in hospitality and hotel management will be provided to
the employees by the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel
Management.
A number of courses related to tourism are being conducted through
relevant centers by Sri Lanka Tourism and Hotel Management Institute.
The courses are held at the Anuradhapura, Kandy, Bandarawela, Ratnapura
and Colombo branches.
A special book complied by Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel
Management to bring Rajarata recipes to international level was launched
while the provision of water tanks for holy places in Anuradhapura took
place under the patronage of Minister Rajapaksa.
Rs 3 million each were granted to places of religious worship,
maintaining pilgrimage houses, to meet the water requirement of local
tourists.
Agrarian Services and Wildlife Minister S M Chandrasena, MP Sehan
Semasinghe, Sri Lanka Tourism Authority chairman Dr Nalaka Godahewa,
attorney- at- law Pushpa Rajapaksa and Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism
and Hotel Management Director General Dr Suranga Silva were among the
participants.
