North - East people only want a stable future -MP Fernandopulle
Nadira GUNATILLEKE
The
ordinary people living in the North and East are not asking for land
powers or police powers. They are asking for a secure future free of war
and deaths.
They do not like another war to take place and their children getting
abducted to be used as child soldiers. They only ask for a secure
future, MP Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle told the Daily News yesterday.
According to Dr. Ms. Fernandopulle all affluent Tamils migrated to
foreign countries during the past 30 years and now they are talking
nonsense about the requirements of the local Tamil community.
Tamil people were able to buy lands from anywhere in the country in
the past and it is same now but the Sinhala people could not buy lands
in the North and east during the LTTE period.
President Mahinda Rajapaksa is the only capable leader who can bring
a lasting political solution to the problems of the Tamil community.
People have confidence in him.
Dr. Ms. Fernandopulle stated that she was extremely happy about the
speedy rehabilitation process going on in the North and East. "There is
a rapid development taking place in the region.
The younger generation can now visit the South and see for themselves
what they had been missing during the past 30 years. I do not hate the
Tamil people even though one of them killed my husband.
The media has a huge responsibility where creating ethnic harmony is
concerned. When the media always point out about shortcomings and the
negative side of everything, harmony and patriotism cannot be cultivated
in young minds," Dr. Ms. Fernandopulle added.
