Medals of excellence for Ramani's students

Ramani, Jude and team

Nisha Wewegama, Selvi Dass and Thivanthi Kodithuwakku brought honour to the nation as they won gold awards of excellence from City & Guilds UK recently.

The three ladies are students of renowned beautician Ramani Fernando whose academy is the approved centre for City & Guilds Hairdressing courses. The academy had produced more than 4000 diplomats with internationally recognised credentials over the years.

A London based vocational training and education organization, the City & Guilds certificates are recognized worldwide. Nisha, Selvi and Thivanthi sat for the examination in 2011. Each of them had done their bit not only to put the country's beauty talents on the map but they have also helped the Sunsilk Ramani Fernando Hair and Beauty Academy reach new heights.

An old girl of Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda, Nisha had joined the academy after several years of profession in the private sector. Hair dressing and beauty culture has been her childhood passion.

Selvi too had been into the field from a young age. A past pupil of St Joseph's Convent, Nugegoda, she said that her favourite childhood pastime had been to style her friends’ and sisters’ hair and give them makeovers.

“Winning the medal motivated me to further my knowledge about the profession,” she said.

Kandy born Thivanthi says that anyone who wishes to embark on a career in the field need to possess relevant skills and use the correct methods.

“I was engaged in the commerce stream during my A/Ls but wished to pursue my passion for beauty culture. The academy helped me to moulding my talents and guiding me in my path to success,” said the past student of Girl's High School, Kandy.

“We are impressed with the through and meticulous academic and professional approach the academy practices towards training the next generation of hairdressers and beauticians in the country. We wholeheartedly congratulate the winners,” said Sunsilk Brand Manager Jude Martino.
