Computer literacy for samaneras

The government is planning to offer computer training for samaneras
under the 'Nenasala' programme to enhance their computer literacy, said
Youth Affairs and Skills Development Minister Dullas Alahapperuma.
The minister was addressing a ceremony held at the ministry premises
to present certificates to 20 samanera Buddhist monks who completed
training at the Taraki Computer Training Centre in Kosgoda.
The minister observed that the Buddhist clergy in Sri Lanka has not
been able to update themselves with the rapidly changing world.
Festival of Carnatic Music
Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo in association with the Hindu
Educational Society will hold Sri Thyagaraja Aradhana, an annual musical
festival paying homage to great Carnatic music composer Thyagaraja, at
Saraswathie Auditorium, No. 17, Lorenz Road, Colombo 4 on February 17 at
5.00 p.m.
Public lecture
The 144th birth anniversary of Sir Baron Jayatilaka, former Leader of
the State Council, Home Affairs Minister and the first Colombo YMBA
President, will be commemorated on February 13 by the Colombo YMBA at
its main hall in Borella with an annual memorial lecture.
The commemoration lecture will be delivered by Dr. Anula Wijesundere,
Consultant Physician, Sri Jayawardenepura General Hospital on Alcohol
Consumption and Consequences in Sri Lanka. The meeting will be chaired
by president of the Association Suren Abeyagoonasekera while the lecture
will be introduced by Rajah Kuruppu, a vice president of the
Association. The Vote of Thanks will be delivered by General Secretary
Sumedha Amerasinghe.
Mishap for train footboard traveller
A youth died when he hit the Pinnagolla rail bridge in Wellawa while
travelling on the footboard of the Colombo bound Anuradhapura train on
Monday.
Police have identified the deceased as K H Hashan Madusanka of
Andarawewa, Hambantota.
Police request train passengers to refrain from travelling on the
footboard.
