UNP Gen Secy told 'Do not belittle Deyata Kirula'

Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya said he would request UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake to visit the Deyata Kirula exhibition with the media and see for himself the benefits that would accrue to the people without belittling and ridiculing the exhibition. He would set apart two special days for them to inspect the exhibition if the invitation is accepted.

Siyambalapitiya said Attanayake had described the Deyata Kirula as a carnival which is a carbon copy of the Gam Udava celebrations of yesteryear.

He had made this remark at a recent press conference.

Siyambalapitiya said Deyata Kirula and Gam Udava were two different exhibitions which were poles apart.

'A sum of Rs 21,000 million was set apart for the Deyata Kirula exhibition this year.

'If the Opposition so desired he would get the government to grant them a parliamentary debate on the Deyata Kirula exhibition with the President's approval,' he said.
