Lanka hopes Maldivian developments would be peaceful

The government is of the view that political developments in the Maldives are Maldivian internal matters and hopes that all issues pertaining to this transition be resolved in a peaceful manner, states an External Affairs Ministry media release.

It said, the Sri Lankan government has noted the resignation of the Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed and the swearing-in of its Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed as the President of the Maldives.

As the closest neighbour, Sri Lanka enjoys a cordial relationship with the government and people of the Maldives, and wishes to assure its fullest support and co-operation to the Maldivian government in its efforts to bring peace and stability to the country and prosperity to the Maldivian people.
