The North Central Provincial Council has embarked on a programme to
make every farmer family in the Rajangane colonization scheme own a
two-wheel tractor.
On the theme invented by Rajangane PS chairman Vimarshana Prabath
Vithana “a two-wheel tractor to every farmer family,” this programme is
implemented under the guidance of Chief Minister Berty Premalal
Dissanayake. They plan to distribute 200 tractors worth Rs 40 million
among farmers under the first phase of this programme.
The tractors are offered through the Lanka Farmer Relief Foundation
without the need of any sureties. One tractor is valued at Rs 200,000
and could be settled within six cultivation seasons along with micro
interest.
North Central Province Chief Minister Berty Premalal Dissanayake said
so at a recent ceremony held at Rajangane for handing over 50 two-wheel
tractors under the programme.
Presenting tractors to farmers for cultivation and transportation
purposes would result in the active participation of the farmer
community in the endeavours of President Mahinda Rajapaksa for
converting Sri Lanka into the Miracle of Asia.
He emphasized that this programme is an exemplary one, which is a
good example to other Pradeshiya Sabhas to empower the livelihood of the
farmer community bringing prosperity to the country.
