“The exhibition is a veiled entrance into an extraordinary world, the
magic happens where the worlds meet”, she says. With her latest
exhibition ‘Thirtha Yathra’, Druvinka invites the art lovers to unlock
their imagination and open their mind’s eye to endless possibilities
that lies in a world beyond ours.
The exhibition has the aesthetic wheels to take you on a spiritual
journey where tranquility rules. If you are fatigued and exhausted after
traveling around hectic streets of Colombo, Barefoot Art Gallery is the
place to be, as Druvinka exhibits her latest painting collection. The
exhibition will go on till February 19.
A fervent believer in spirit world, Druvinka is adamant that spirits
can communicate with her even as she paints. Blessed with creative
prowess to draw parallels between unknown, she says, “I feel my body is
set on earth as an instrument to communicate with the spirit world and
ours.”
She believes that the purpose of her life is to act as a medium
between the spirit world and ours. For some, her claim may sound absurd
and preposterous. “True, people might think I am crazy. If anyone says
it is absurd, they are entitled to think I am lying,” she added.
She claims that sometimes, her paintings bring out certain
silhouettes of ‘faces’ which she originally did not intend to put at the
painting. Druvinka claims that as the spirits at work.
At another level, her paintings are a reflection of her vibrant soul.
Her paintings are autobiographical, personal and universal at the same
time. For Druvinka, painting is a way of letting herself lose. “When I
start to paint, I don’t have a clear picture as to what exactly I am
going to draw. I just let myself lose and sometimes, even I feel
surprised at the end product that I come up with,” she expressed. She is
also a devout believer of Hindu gods such as Kali, Shiva and Vishnu.
Druvinka has been showcasing her creative works at major exhibitions
since 1990. Her first exhibition was held at Galadari Meridien Hotel
Colombo. Since then she has conducted close to twenty exhibitions in
all. The education she received at Vishava Bharathi Shanthiniketan was
instrumental at harnessing her creative talents. She is also the founder
of “We are International” group which aims at feeding necessary moral
support for artists from different nationalities. Druvinka presently
lives in Himachal Pradesh India. |
