Nipuni Wimalapala
Sanda Hiru Mala is one solo performance which blossomed at the Lotus
Pond recently. The colourful evening was dominated by Rivindu Prabangi
Vithana of Visakha Vidyalaya. Being just 19, her dancing performance was
simply outstanding.
Her first solo dancing show, Sanda Hiru Mala, turned out to be a
great success. It had been the dream of her life. She enchanted the
whole audience with her wonderful dancing moves. She kept the eyes of
the audience open towards her elegant dancing steps which are perfect
and unique to her.
Rivindu started the show with an innovative Bharatha Natyam dance and
continued with many other dancing items. Then she moved to some romantic
Bollywood dancing items displaying her capability. Rivindu’s next step
was an enthusiastic Latin – Rumba dace with a partner. Then she
performed traditional Kandyan dancing items and some free style dancing
items. She performed really well proving her high capability in every
dancing style.
Prime Minister D M Jayaratne was the distinguished Chief Guest of the
dancing show flanked by other ministers to enjoy the show. Rivindu is a
multi talented dancer who does a lot of extracurricular activities at
school. She is a sporty student having excelled in swimming, tennis,
netball and basket ball while being a brilliant dancer. She was also in
the school prefect board. Rivindu represented school at many significant
occasions. When she was in grade seven, she represented school in
Netherlands at a dancing show called Ordoon. Since the primary school
she had been a dancer who has won a number of awards.
In 2005, Rivindu went to the UK with her parents and attended to a
school there. She performed well there, where she did dancing and sports
as well. She was then more interested in traditional Indian dancing.
At the moment she is reading for her degree as she never wants to be
a professional dancer. “Dancing would be my hobby and I want to be
professionally involved in some other work related to my education”, she
mentioned.
