Wayamba Fisheries Ministry to revamp inland fisheries

Wayaba Provincial Fisheries, Electricity and Housing Minister Sanath
Nishantha Perera said that supplementing the depleted pockets of inland
fisheries fishermen and revamping their economy was the aim of the
Wayamba Fisheries Ministry.
“By advancing the economic standard of villagers, they can spend
their lives cheerfully. Therefore, the ministry has embarked on an
uphill task of improving inland fisheries in 50 selected tanks in the
Puttalam and Kurunegala districts, the provincial minister said.
The Provincial Minister was speaking to villagers in Konkandawala ,
Nawagaththegama, Chilaw recently. The minister said that prawn fry and
fish fingerlings were provided free by the provincial ministry. He said
that other fringe benefits and amenities were provided to them.
Technical knowledge was also given to carry on this industry
fruitfully.
He said that fishing nets were given to 25 fishermen in the village.
They were also given plastic baskets and push bicycles to transport
fish to households in the far-flung villages.
