Sri Lankans suspected in ATM robberies
Indonesian Police said they have arrested two Sri Lankans who are
suspected of stealing hundreds of millions of rupiah using fake ATM
cards. “We have arrested two people. The first suspect, is a Sri Lankan
citizen and was caught on January 29 while using a CIMB Niaga ATM in
Kebayoran Lama, South Jakarta,” Police Spokesman Saud Usman Nasution
said.
The man was allegedly in possession of Rp 64 million ($7,200), 25
fake ATM cards and an official asylum seeker’s identity document.
The next day, Saud said, police arrested another man, who they
suspect is also Sri Lankan, although he was found to be in possession of
a fake Indonesian national identity card. He said the man was caught
while using an ATM in Gambir, Central Jakarta, and was found with Rp 55
million.
Police are investigating to see if the cases are linked.
