Cluster villages to be transferred to townships
Cluster villages developed under the Gama Neguma and other
programmes, will be transferred into small townships under the Pura
Neguma programme introduced by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Economic
Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa said.
He was addressing a Puttalam district progress review meeting held at
the Puttalam District Secretariat on Thursday. Project proposals in
respect of 540 Grama Niladhari Divisions in Chilaw, Nattandiya,
Wennappuwa, Puttalam and Anamaduwa electorates were discussed at this
meeting. Minister Rajapaksa's proposal to develop Wanathawilluwa,
Norochcholai, Arachchikattuwa and Navagattegama as small townships, had
come up at the meeting. He said that under the Gama Neguma one project
for each village programme, steps will be taken to implement project
proposals made by Jana Sabha and respresentatives of provincial and
local councils.
Ministers A H M Fowzie, A L M Athaulla, Dayashritha Tissera and
Priyankara Jayaratne, Wayamba Governor Tissa Balalla, Chief Minister
Athula Wijesinghe and Puttalam District Secretary M Kingsley Fernando
attended the conference.
