Electricity for 200 families in Kalutara district

The Power and Energy Ministry has provided electricity to
approximately 200 families in the Kalutara district yesterday, in its
bid to provide electricity to the entire country by the end of 2012.
This provision was made through four projects in the Kalutara
district under the directions of Power and Energy Minister Patali
Champika Ranawaka. With these electricity extension projects, 96 percent
of the Kalutara district would be provided with electricity. Ministry
sources stated that the rest of the people in the Kalutara district
would be lucky to enjoy electricity within the next few months.
These projects include the Ihala Hewessa Fruit Farm electricity
project which had been implemented at a cost of Rs. 15.13 million, for
the benefit of 53 families, Gulanawatte electricity project, at a cost
of Rs. 12.28 million, for the benefit of 52 families, Hewessa and
Mananhena electricity projects implemented at a cost of Rs. 12.45
million for the benefit of 92 families.
The total cost of the 4 projects had amounted to Rs. 40 million.
Media Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry has stated that
another five electricity projects would be handed over to the public in
the Northern Province on 5th, 6th and 7th of this month, providing them
with electricity.
He added that these projects had been inplemented in Vavunia,
Medawachchiya, Kilinochchi and Jaffna Districts.
He added that by now Gampaha district and Hambantota district would
be enjoying electricity 100 percent, while 99 percent of the people in
Colombo district enjoyed electricity.
