Power pirates fined

Investigations carried out by the Ceylon Electricity Board found that approximately 15 electricity consumers in Kurunegala have manipulated their metres.

A spokesman attached to the investigation branch told the Daily News that these consumers have been tampering with metres and service wires for a long time. Among them were some businessmen and commercial establishments.

He said with the assistance of the police, the accused were produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court and fines imposed on them totalled Rs 1,250,000 from which the Ceylon Electricity Board was able to recover their loss.
