President launches 1,000 National Schools programme

The programme to develop 1,000 National Schools islandwide, which
aims at providing equal opportunities and facilities for all in
education, was launched by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Anuradhapura
yesterday.
The President launched the programme unveiling a memorial plaque at
the Walisinghe Harischandra Maha Vidyalaya, one of the chosen Schools.
Then he laid the foundation stone (amidst pirith chanting by Maha
Sangha), to construct a new building complex at the School which would
house a state-of-the-art Educational Technological Laboratory.
The new building complex will cost Rs 12 million.
