Professionalism in different fields of activities is a vital facet
for the economic growth of Sri Lanka and it is possible if key personnel
in every organization are conscious of the dire need to maximize
productivity within the resources available.
International Marketing Consultant, Dr Upali Mahanama said at a
seminar organized by McQuire Rens and Jones at Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel
yesterday.
He said many industries in the country today is lacking skilled
people which has caused a huge drop of productivity.
However, this situation could be changed positively through a proper
mechanism. Dr Mahanama said that there are four key areas to focus in
achieving professionalism namely knowledge, skills, discipline and
leadership.
If one is prepared to put the shoulder to the wheel leadership
qualities can be developed and skills can be acquired, though
painstakingly over a period of time.
He elaborated on a practical system towards achieving required skills
titled six point plan.
Firstly identifying the lacking skills through a self-evaluation and
creating a definite awareness of the specific skills need to be
developed.
Then, realize the benefits of achieving expected results and get
motivated. After that it is necessary to analyse different components of
skills required and start practising it with confidence over a period of
time which is not an easy task.
Finally it has to be reviewed to get an accurate and positive
feedback where that skill could be used in real situation achieving
higher levels of competence and professionalism. |
