UK forces trained to suppress unrest
UK: The Daily Telegraph revealed that troops from 3rd battalion The
Parachute Regiment have been trained in exercises similar to the
unprecedented unrest which swept across Britain during the past summer.
Defense sources have revealed that in case of any possible future
unrest, forces armed with body-length shields will be deployed on
streets joining the British police in suppressing protesting crowds.
The 'public order training' of the forces, which took place at the
Lydd base in Kent, involved petrol bombs being hurdled at troops and
running battles between troops and crowds of protesters.
Defense sources also revealed that the deployment of forces on
streets should be urged by Britain's Home Office and that the British
Prime Minister should approve of such measures before the so-called
'prudent contingency planning' could be implemented. "Learning how to
deal with public order situations is a new skill for on a challenging
and extremely realistic course," said Major Richard Todd, the officer
commanding A Coy 3 Para. Press TV
