Mercantile Investments become first to surpass 400 run mark
Mercantile Investments Ltd. created history when they became the
first team in any MCA tournament to go past the 400-run mark as they
posted 417 for 6 in 40 overs against CW Mackie and Co. in the ongoing
10th DPMC - Bajaj, MCA "E" division 40 overs League tournament,
continued last week-end.
Mercantile Investments astronomical total at Ananda Mawatha, revolved
around an opening stand of 155 runs between Prasad Senaratne (70 in 44
balls) and Dileepa Marlon (113 in 77 balls), followed by a fourth wicket
partnership of 98 runs between Chinthaka Seram (82 in 59 balls) and
finally Rukshan Suriarachchi's finishing touches with an unbeaten 68
runs in 26 balls. MIL's 417 runs included 48 fours and 16 sixes.
CW Mackie did not take it lying down, as Sujeewa Sampath decided to
take the bull by the horns, scoring a fighting century (114), thus
finishing with a respectable 276 for 9, but well short by 141 runs.
At the end of the day, total of 693 runs in 484 balls, inclusive of
80 fours and 30 sixes was hit by both teams.
The other astonishing news came from the MCA HQ about a bowler
bagging 07 wickets.
Commercial Bank "B" paceman, S. Embuldeniya finished with amazing
figures of 7 for 21 in 7.5 overs, to skittle out Mabroc Teas for 37 runs
overs. The match was over at 11.45 am lasting only 18.5 overs .
The Bankers, home to lunch winning by 09 wickets. Dialog "A" posted
their third win on a trot, beating MAS Linea Aqua by 32 runs.
Union Assurance tasted their 1st defeat after two wins, as they went
down to Debug by 05 wickets.
