Malaysian couple arrested

A young Malaysian couple who had defrauded a large number of job
seekers for several hundred thousand rupees promising jobs at a biscuit
factory in Malaysia was arrested by the Matale Division Police
Unresolved Crimes Division along with their Sri Lankan accomplice on
Tuesday.
Police also seized a sum of Rs 128,000 and four passports from their
possession. Police said investigations revealed that the money had been
obtained from three persons in Polonnaruwa and a resident in Rattota.
The couple had arrived here on January 28 on a visa issued for 30 days.
The Sri Lankan accomplice is a resident of Aluvihare who had been
employed abroad earlier.
The couple had planned to leave the country after the expiry of the
visa after fleecing the money from unsuspecting job seekers. Matale
Police Vice Squad is investigating directed by DIG H N B Ambanwala and
SSP Tilak Abeygunawardena.
