Job seekers defrauded:

Malaysian couple arrested

A young Malaysian couple who had defrauded a large number of job seekers for several hundred thousand rupees promising jobs at a biscuit factory in Malaysia was arrested by the Matale Division Police Unresolved Crimes Division along with their Sri Lankan accomplice on Tuesday.

Police also seized a sum of Rs 128,000 and four passports from their possession. Police said investigations revealed that the money had been obtained from three persons in Polonnaruwa and a resident in Rattota. The couple had arrived here on January 28 on a visa issued for 30 days. The Sri Lankan accomplice is a resident of Aluvihare who had been employed abroad earlier.

The couple had planned to leave the country after the expiry of the visa after fleecing the money from unsuspecting job seekers. Matale Police Vice Squad is investigating directed by DIG H N B Ambanwala and SSP Tilak Abeygunawardena.
