RI for murder accused

An accused in a murder case was sentenced to eight-year rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 15,000 by Panadura Provincial High Court Judge Kusala Sarojani Weerawardena.

The Judge also ordered the accused to pay Rs 50,000 as compensation to the mother of the deceased.

The accused was indicted by the Attorney General with committing the murder of his wife Jayanthi Hettiarachchi by stabbing with a knife on July 31, 2004 at Palanwatta, Piliyandala. State Counsel Disna Warnakula prosecuted.
