The mega international exhibition Expo 2012 scheduled to be held for
three days from March 28 will showcase Sri Lanka's export capabilities.
We are working towards a successful exhibition and are pleased with
the outcome so far. "We are in the process of registering Sri Lankan
exporters in every product and service category," Sri Lanka Export
Development Board Chairman and CEO Janaka Ratnayake told the Daily News
Business.
The EDB conducted numerous promotional events in other countries
including road shows which attracted many trading partners, investors
and international tour operators. The road shows were conducted in the
Middle East, UK, Europe, Canada, Korea, Japan and also many promotional
events in Australia and South Africa, he said. These activities have
generated enthusiasm and are encouraging responses and potential
investors are looking at Sri Lanka in a positive manner for doing
business and for travel.
We were successful in building contacts with many distribution
channels all around the world to promote trade and commerce in our
country. We are positive that we could attract prospective buyers and
trading partners in thousands and also a large number of investors, he
said.
With the prevailing stable economic and political stability and peace
we need to promote Sri Lanka as an economic power. This collective
effort will lead the country in becoming a developed country at the end
of a decade supported by rapid economic growth and accelerated
development, Ratnayake said.
