Owners receive compensation

The first stage of the payment of compensation to owners of 436 houses in Rambewa damaged during last years floods was held at the Rambewa Divisional Secretariat under the patronage of Child Development and Women’s Affairs Minister Tissa Karaliyadda on Tuesday.

Minister Karaliyadda said owners of 95 damaged houses received an initial payment of Rs 20,000 each at Tuesday’s ceremony following a directive by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to accelerate compensation payments concurrent to the Deyata Kirula Exhibition. Minister Karaliyadda said owners of all 436 houses damaged will receive compensation payments under this programme. Rambewa Pradeshiya Sabha Chairman Prasanna Tennakoon and other officials were present at the occasion.
