Bens hold the whip hand

St Benedict’s College, Kotahena were 133 for 5 at the end of day one in reply to St Sebastian’s College total of 140 runs in their inter-school under-19 cricket match worked off at Kotahena.

Taking the first lease formidable Sebs could not come up to expectations and only Nishamal Fernando and Sangeeth Cooray scored 42 and 33 runs respectively. Yohan Soysa had a fine spell of bowling for the homesters with 5 for 23.

Bens score was propped up by Sameera Sandamal who scored an elegant 60 runs with eight hits to the rope. So far Samitha de Mel has impressed with the ball with 3 for 44 for Sebs.

St Sebastian’s: 140 (Nishamal Fernando 42, Sangeeth Cooray 33, Yohan Soysa 5/23, Dilan Angelo 3/32).

St Benedict’s: 133/5 (Sameera Sandamal 60, Arjuna Perera 3/44).
