Dialog Axiata Technology scholarships to students

Sri Lanka's largest mobile service provider Dialog Axiata PLC is offering Technology scholarships to 54 students, who scored top marks in the field of mathematics at the (General Certificate of Education) A/L (Advance Level) examinations held in 2009 and 2010.

The Dialog Technology Scholarship which is in its ninth consecutive year recognizes and rewards the top scorers from all 25 districts in the mathematics steam at the A/L examinations. Under the scheme each scholarship recipient would be awarded a monthly stipend of 4,000 rupees during their university under graduate years.

The scholar batches comprise of students from the University of Moratuwa and the University of Peradeniya pursuing studies in the fields of Electronic, Electrical, Telecommunications, Computing Engineering and Information Technology.

"The Government has embarked on a programme to make rapid socioeconomic transformation through the use of ICT (Information Communication Technology) to make Sri Lanka a leading player in knowledge based economy in the South Asian region," Hon. S B Dissanayake, Minister of Higher Education said.

"Dialog has emerged as a key driver of education development in Sri Lanka, offering children from all walks of life the opportunity for a better education. We look forward to their continued support in this process of national transformation," Minister Dissanayake further said.

The Dialog Technology Scholarship Programme is the first technology-related scholarship scheme in the country. The list of students who are eligible for the scholarship scheme is selected by the UGC (University Grants Commission) and is later communicated to Dialog Axiata.

To date Dialog Axiata PLC has granted 493 A/L and O/L (Ordinary Level) scholarships from 2003.
