Engineers test open upper Kotmale sluice gates

All six sluice gates of the Upper Kotmale Hydrel reservoir which is now filled to capacity were opened for sometime and closed by engineers yesterday to test whether they are fully operational.

The testing which was due to take place at 9 am yesterday had to be postponed by tree hours due to a protest campaign launched by workers attached to the project alleging that the contractors of the project had failed to grant their demands.

Talawakelle Police assisted by an anti-riot squad arrived at the scene and dispersed the crowd.
