Alawwa train accident victims' dependants get insurance payment

The National Insurance Trust Fund (NITF) had paid Rs 1.2 million
under the Agrahara medical insurance scheme to dependants of two victims
of the Alawwa train accident which occurred on September 17 last year, a
spokesman for the Fund told the Daily News yesterday.
The insurance payment was handed over to Transport Minister Kumara
Welgama by NITF Chairman Senaka Abeygunawardena at the ministry on
Wednesday. The dependents of train driver Lal Ajith Kaluarachchi and
assistant train driver A A Don Nihal of the Allawwa train accident were
paid insurance claims.
The spokesman said that an engine driver of whose both legs were
injured by a rail accident in Puttalam last year was also paid Rs
600,000. Agrahara Medical Scheme manager Anura Samarakoon was also
present.
