SLMA confab starts in Jaffna today

The first of the series of conferences at the provincial level
organised by the Sri Lanka Medical Association (SLMA) will commence
today in Jaffna and will continue until the January 29.
The conference series is organised to commemorate the SLMA's 125th
anniversary. Health Minister, Mithreepala Sirisena will attend the
opening ceremony this morning at the Tilco Jaffna Hotel. Around 400
medical practitioners in the Northern Province are expected to
participate at the conference. SLMA Chairman Vajira H W Dissanayeke said
that priority of the conference will focus on health issues facing the
Northern Province and providing solutions to them.
Improving the professional status of doctors, the introduction of new
technology, use of Information Technology, improving research and
non-communicable diseases will be amongst the topics discussed. The
Medical Association has organised to hold similar conferences in Galle,
Batticaloa, Anuradhapura and Kandy in the future, SLMA Secretary Dr
Lasantha Malavige, said. Additional Secretary, SLMA Dr Kapila Jayarathna,
Dr Deepal Vijesuriya, Communications officer also spoke.
