President hailed as great leader

President Mahinda Rajapaksa

Religious leaders and civil society representatives yesterday hailed President Mahinda Rajapaksa as one of the greatEST leaders the country has ever produced. They said the President was able to end the 30 year terrorism and bring peace to the country. They also said he has launched a number of development projects which will make Sri Lanka the Wonder of Asia soon.

Sri Jayawardhanapura University Chancellor and Bellanwila Raja Maha Viharaya Chief Incumbent Ven Bellanwila Wimalaratane Thera said all Sri Lankans should honour him for ending the war.

"A host of development projects are taking place in the country. We still have many challenges to face such as the LTTE rump. We have to take the correct decision so that terrorism will not raise its head in Sri Lanka again," he said. "No other leader has won the confidence of the people like President Rajapaksa. We should keep in mind that the President was able to give a clear answer to terrorism in this country. He has the capability to solve the North and East issue. All Sri Lankans should help the President at this decisive juncture," he said.

Kelaniya University Professor Ven Induruwe Dhammaratane Thera said the people and political leaders should protect President Rajapaksa who saved the nation from terrorism.

"Some are trying to resurrect the LTTE. The President's hands should be strengthened to defeat these forces," he said. Master Divers and Mavbima Lanka Foundation chairman Ariyaseela Wickramanayake said President Rajapaksa has launched a number of development projects which will benefit all Sri Lankans.

"The Hambantota Port project symbolises the broad vision of the President to develop the country. Our attitude should change. Without blaming the government we also must look at ways of developing the country," he said.
