Alms giving to mark prelate's birthday

An alms giving to 100 members of the Maha Sangha was held at the Sri Abayarama Temple, Narahenpitiya to mark the 69th birthday of the Chief Incumbent of Abayarama Temple and Chief Sanghanayake of Western Province Ven Muruththettuwe Ananda Thera.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa who participated in this religious ceremony, offered alms to the Maha Sangha.

The President thereafter opened the shrine room for Goddess Paththini. Kelaniya University Chancellor and Kelaniya Vidyalankara Pirivena Parivenadhipathi Ven Welamitiyawe Kusaladhamma Thera delivered the anusasana.

The Maha Sangha invoked blessings on the President by chanting seth pirith.

Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena, Urban Development and Water Supply Minister Dinesh Gunawardena, Power and Energy Minister Patali Champika Ranawaka and Economic Development Deputy Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena were also present.
