Ratnam SC still on top

Ratnam SC, after a thrilling victory over New Young's SC by 2-1 at
City Football Complex on Sunday, remained at the top of the points table
with 38 points in Dialog Champions League 2011. They have scored 25
goals to become the top goal scoring team in the tournament so far.
New Young's led the game in the first half with an early goal from
Innocent in the sixth minute. Then, Ratnam's goal machine E.B. Channa
equalized the game with a beauty in the 71st minute and Yogaraja secured
the victory for his team with a goal he earned in the 80th minute.
SL Army SC drew their game with SL Police SC at Seewali Grounds on
the same day to remain second and unchanged in the points table. The
match ended without both teams scoring any goals.
Jeewantha Dhammika took his team a step forward when SL Navy SC
defeated Airmen by 1-0 at Baddagana Football Complex in another
encounter in the same tournament. Jeewantha struck just after 3 minutes
of the starting whistle.
Saunders SC had another disappointing game with Don Bosco where they
lost the match by 0-2 in Negambo. Both teams tried hard to put a point
on the scoreboard before the lemons but it was W I P Silva who found the
net for Don Bosco in the 77th minute. K R P Fernando added the second
one in the last minute.
Earlier, on Saturday, Renown SC defeated Nandimiththra SC by 3-0 in
another encounter at City Football Complex. Zain netted the first goal
for his team in the 37th minute while M I Anam booted the second one
just before the first half whistle. G P D Priyankara contributed with a
beauty early in the second half to make it 3-0.
Despite of the early lead in the first half with a goal from J M
Sarwan, Java Lane had to bear the equalizer by M K M Najeem of Blue Star
at Vernaon Fernando Stadium in Kalutara. The game ended 1-1.
