C B Ratnayake 54 today

Private Transport Services Minister C B Ratnayake will celebrate his 54th birthday today.

A number of religious and social service programmes have been organized in Walapane to mark the occasion.


Nalanda walk

The Nalanda College Walk 2012 will be held on January 21. The walk will commence at the college. Participants are requested to assemble at the college by 8 am dressed in special Nalanda walk T-shirts and caps, available at the college Sports Club office.

The walk is organized by the Old Nalandians' Sports Club in association with the Junior Old Boys' Association and Old Nalandians' Associations. Proceeds will be utilized for the school's sports activities.


Lecture

The Royal Asiatic Society Sri Lanka lecture 'A survey of archaeology of the Jaffna peninsula: Pre- Buddhist settlements' by former ambassador Bandu de Silva will be held at the Gamini Dissanayake auditorium, 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7 on January 30 at 5 pm.

The lecture is open to the public.


Workshop and exhibition

A workshop and exhibition on sports physiotherapy, focusing on schoolchildren and their coaches, organized by the Government Physiotherapists' Association will be held on January 23 from 9 am to 3. 30 pm at the Buddhist Cultural Centre, Thunmulla.

Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena will be the chief guest. Education Minister Bandula Gunawardena and Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage will also participate.


Seminar

An awareness seminar 'Extension of the Navis system will be held on January 26 from 2.45 pm to 5 pm. at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce auditorium. Registration is at 2. 30 pm.

Sri Lanka Ports Authority Chairman Dr Priyath B Wickrama and his team will present new developments and benefits to the trade along with Bank of Ceylon.

An awareness seminar on the new food regulations and Sri Lanka standards will be held on January 27 from 2 pm to 5 pm at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Auditorium. The speakers are Health Ministry director Dr T B Ananda Jayalal, Sri Lanka Standards Institute director W N N Satharasinghe and Fonterra Brands Lanka (Pvt) Ltd Nutrition and Regulatory Affairs manager Dr Sanath Mahawithanage.

A seminar to promote noni, an anti diabetic flour, will be held at the Cooperative Hall, New City, Anuradhapura Town on January 29 from 10 am to noon.

Screening of patients for diabetics and blood check ups will also be conducted.


Festival of Life at Galle Face

Joyce Meyer will conduct the Festival of Life conference at the Galle Face Green along with the band Healing Place on January 21 from 6 pm.

Meyer is Christian author and speaker. Entrance is free.


Coconut price up in Kurunegala

The price of coconut has increased in Kurunegala and the suburbs.

The price of a coconut is between Rs 35 and Rs 40. This has benefited coconut smallholders in rural areas. The price of king coconut as gone down.
