More complaints over land frauds

The Police have received over 600 complaints on land fraud and
illegal land transactions. Around 100 illegal transactions are frauds
involving over Rs 5 million.
Police Media Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said at a press briefing at
the Police Traffic Headquarters recently that most land frauds have been
carried out using fake Identity Cards.
Doctors, lawyers, teachers and other high ranking officials have also
become victims in these land frauds.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) created a special unit
named Immovable Property Investigation unit under the guidance of
Defence and Urban Development Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to
investigate into the land fraud.
