Peterites in 18-run win

St Peter’s College beat Wesley College outright by 18 runs in their inter school under 19 match concluded at Campbell Park yesterday.

St.Peter’s resuming their second innings at 20 for two wickets were bundled out for 149 runs in their second innings. Shihan Fernando (45) and Shashin Fernando (32) were the only batsmen to defy the Wesley attack.Right arm leg spinner Ashail Kariyawasam was the main wrecker with six wickets for 42 runs .He was well supported by Sachin Jayawardana who took three for 19.

The Wesleyites chasing a victory target of 204 runs were all out for 185 runs to give the Peterites an 18 run win despite two gallant knocks by Lahiru Perera (57) and Ashen Fonseka (48).Left arm leg spinner Julian De Silva was the destroyer once again with six wickets for 56 to give him a matchbag of 12 wickets for 78 runs.

St Peter’s: 148 (Dinith Hewathanthri 45, Semila Obeysekara 25(not out), Shashin Fernando 29, Sachin Jayawardana five for 19 , Ashail Kariyawasam four for 36) and 149 (Shihan Fernando 45 , Shashin Fernando 32,Ashail Kariyawasam six for 42,Sachin Jayawardana three for 19.)

Wesley: 94 (Ashail Kariyawasam 39, Lahiru Perera 21,Julian De Silva six for 22, Dushan Hemantha four for 32) and 185 (Lahiru Perera 57, Ashen Fonseka 48, Julian De Silva six for 56)
