Bharatha shooting: suspects further remanded

Sixteen of the twenty suspects who are alleged to have been involved
in the shooting incident of Presidential Trade Union Advisor and former
Colombo District Parliamentarian Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra were
yesterday further remanded till January 31, 2012 by Colombo Additional
Magistrate Prasanna Alwis.
Duminda Silva MP and his bodyguard were not present in court
yesterday. Earlier, the court granted bail to two other suspects who
were alleged to have been involved in the shooting incident.
On the last hearing date nine prosecution witnesses identified 10
suspects who were alleged to have been involved in the killing of former
MP Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra, at an identification parade held by
the magistrate.
At the outset, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID)
conducting investigations into the shooting incident of Parliamentarian
Bharatha Lakshman Premachnadra yesterday submitted the medical report of
Colombo District MP Duminda Silva before Colombo Additional Magistrate
Prasanna Alwis.
President’s Counsel Hemantha Warnakulasuriya watched the interests of
MP Duminda Silva.
Attorneys Ajith Pathirana, Anuja Premaratne, Kingsley Perera and
several other attorneys appeared for the suspects. Further hearing was
put off for January 31, 2012.
