yesterday assumed duties as Colombo Division Senior DIG.

Senior DIG Anura Senanayake who is an old boy of St. Servatius,
College, Matara, joined the Police Department in October 15, 1973. He
was promoted as Assistant Superintend of Police (ASP) in 1989 and to the
rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police in 2008 and was in charged of
the Crimes Division of the Police Headquarters.
The new Colombo Senior DIG had been in-charge of several police
stations, including, Vavuniya, Chilaw, Batticaloa, Police Transport
Division, CCD and Crimes Division Police Headquarters.
Senior DIG Senanayake who was directing special investigation unit
attached to the Colombo Crime Division (CCD) in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
He earlier supervised the special investigation unit and arrested two
suspects involved in a number of crimes committed in the country.
A high level investigation also had been carried out by Senior DIG
Senanayake’s special unit to ascertain whether these two suspects were
involved in the massive Rs 70 m robbery in Wattala.
