Probe on news reports claiming changes

Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa told Parliament yesterday that an investigation would be conducted on baseless newspaper reports which said recently that he would be resigning from the post of Speaker and that the Prime Minister too would be changed.

The Speaker said so when UNP Colombo district MP Ravi Karunanayake questioned in Parliament whether the news reports which said that there would be changes in the personnel holding posts of Speaker, Prime Minister and Leader of the House were true. Speaker Rajapaksa said the news reports were not true.

MP Karunanayake thereupon asked whether an investigation would be held to find out the need for publishing such false news items. He said that it was a matter worthy of investigation and that it should be investigated.
