Another 25,000 trainee nurses

The Health Ministry has launched a programme to recruit another 25,000 trainee nursers to the Health Service on a concept of Minister Maithripala Sirisena to increase the total nursing cadre to 50,000.

The first batch of 2,500 trainee nurses recruited under this programme will receive their appointment letters from President Mahinda Rajapaksa at a ceremony at Temple Trees on January 22 at 10 am. Minister Sirisena and several other Ministers and Parliamentarians will also be present.

Health Ministry Media officer W M D Wanninayake said the new batch has been recruited after proper interviews with special emphasis on women who have proficiency in Tamil language to fill existing vacancies in hospitals in the North and East.

Those selected have been sent letters summoning them for the ceremony requesting them to be present at the Temple Trees main hall by 8 am on January 22. Further particulars could be obtained on: 2694033 or General numbers 2694033, 2669192, 2675011, 2675449 Extension 333 or 334.
