Tele artistes in the limelight

Curtains will rise for the Raigam Tele'es this year at the Water's
Edge, Battaramulla, on May 11. Armed with seven years' experience of
holding the glamorous festival, the Raigam team looks towards showcasing
this year's event on a broader scale.

Awards for news readers have been newly added to the line up this
year in Sinhala, Tamil and English medium. Programme presenters too will
be chosen ion the three mediums. The Prathibha Prabha award and two
special awards too will be given to those who had made a considerable
contribution to the field. Around 52 awards will be presented at this
year's Raigam Tele'es.
The event is aimed at paying homage to all the artistes in the mini
screen. It includes teledramas, sports, children's political, news,
documentary, reality and many other programmes. Aimed at covering all
areas in the television media the Raigam Tele'es is not only recognised
in national level but is designed in a manner in which it is approaching
the stage of being on par with international festivals such as the
Grammy and Golden Globes.
This year the number of awards to be handed for the teledrama
category will be the same as last year. Awards will be given for
creative, acting, singing, technical talents, multi episode teledramas
and single episode teledramas.
The popular awards too will make their presence at the festival.
Readers will get the opportunity to select the most popular teledrama,
actor and actress via SMS. To register one's choice, one has to type the
name of the teledrama, space, name of the actor/actress and send the
text to 0772522522 between April 1 and May 9. Two tickets each will be
given to 25 people who had sent in their choice through SMS.
This year's jury comprises Prof Patrick Ratnayake, Prof Ajantha
Hapuarachchi, Prof Sampath Amarathunge, Visharada Edward Jayakody,
Senior lecturer Hansamala Ritigahapola, Buddhadasa Galappaththi and
retired senior administrative officer R Dharmakulasingham. Local
teledramas which had telecast their last episode in 2011 and other local
television programmes which have been telecast in 2011 are viable to
apply for the competition. Any productions telecast over cable TV or any
other paid channel or any dubbed productions are not eligible to
entertain applications. News readers and programme presenters can apply
through the television channel or independently. Closing date for
application for the Raigam Tele'es is January 31. Application forms and
details can be obtained at the Raigam Tele'es secretariat and from all
TV channels.
