Painting with emotions

His sharp creative lines give out thousands of emotions. He is
extremely creative and his works are very innovative. Thilak
Palliyaguruge is one talented down to earth artist in Sri Lanka who has
achieved a lot through his career.

The landscape designer who is presently an art teacher of Colombo
International School will hold his next art exhibition on January 20 at
Alliance Francaise de Kandy. The exhibition will commence at 6 pm and
will be held till January 30.
Since his childhood Thilak has been an art master who has won many
awards for his creativity. He has held many art exhibitions throughout
his art career. In 1998 he was conferred a doctorate in art by
Dharmapala - Olcott Memorial Research Foundation. Paliyagururuge's art
is original and unique.
It is called miniature abstract art which could
be defined as any art in which the depiction of real objects in nature
has been subordinated or entirely discarded, and whose aesthetic content
is expressed in a formal pattern or structure of shapes, lines and
colours.
Palliyaguruge has won many awards for his creativity and he remains
one of the prominent artists in Sri Lanka. He has won highly commended
certificate for composition and colour harmony - Exhibition of paintings
organized by the Ceylon student's union held at the National Art Gallery
Colombo. In 1955 he won the first place in Expression Drawing and Social
Drawing.
In 1955 again he won first place for both painting and
sculpture in Ruhunu Kala Mangallaya Town Hall, Ambalangoda. In 2005 he
won Sammana award for the invaluable service rendered for the field of
art and for the service of excellence for art education. Recently in
2010, he got honorary felicitation and award from provincial secretariat
of Kundasale for the services and rendered for art and art education.
