Nipuni WIMALAPALA
A story of professional and family life in an international milieu,
'Clouds are not Spheres nor Mountain Cones' by scientist R O B
Wijesekara was launched recently at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
Illustrating the scientific pedigree and the artistic capability of
Dr Wijesekara, Prof. Manique Gunasekara reviewed the book briefly at the
gathering. She started mentioning that though he is a man of science,
this book is not totally a book of science, but it is a combination of
arts and science.

Minister
Professor Tissa Vitharana addresses the audience |
"Dr. Wijesekara is a perfect scientist, extremely passionate about
medicinal plants. He has contributed much to the country's scientific
development. He excessively travelled around the world and everywhere he
went, his Sri lankan identity was tagged with him. He is a unique man
possessing a number of talents.
The story depicts both his professional and family life in an
international setting," noted Prof. Gunasekara.
According to Prof Wijesekara the book is a beautiful mixture of
fragrances and rhythms. The structure of the book is excellent though he
is professionally a scientist. He uses all the natural objects to
explain the beauty of the places where he visited and lived. 'Clouds are
not Spheres nor Mountain Cones' can be reviewed under two theories which
are literary criticism and discourse analysis and communication theory.
"The author takes us to some of the most beautiful places of the
world such as Jamaica, West Indies, Mali, Guyana, Rumenia and Tanzania.
He inspires the reader with most wondrous sights of nature.
He refers to the beautiful nature not because of the beauty but also
because of the medicinal value of the natural plants," she stressed.
Apart from the naturalism, he talks about the reality of life. He
convinces the fact that every man faces different ethical and modern
issues when networking with the society. Every man has to network with
hundreds of others in the same society and each of them is different
from each other.
Wijesekara is a humble man who is strongly attached to his family. He
looks after his wife and children well and his affection towards them is
clearly depicted through the book.
Prof. Tissa Vitarana the senior Minister of Scientific Affairs
addressed the gathering pointing out the author's immense service to the
scientific development of the country.
"ROB Is extremely competent in his ability and has excelled in
science. His contribution to the development of science is outstanding.
