Shouldn't music be therapeutic instead of metallic?
We hear and listen to numerous sounds in day
to day life. To organise these sounds and articulate the sound in music
language, one needs to compose a melody, needs to harmonize and decorate
it using different music patterns. Finally it becomes a music
composition rather than a mere noise. In a musical composition, there
should be a unique expression and should deliver the composer's
imaginative genius to the listener. When the music is played, it becomes
a communication between the composer and listener
Music is an art of expression of sounds, human feelings, through a
number of notes. It is a sort of communication and a single person's
experience which is put into complex, artistic melodies. It's not a
collective effort and experience. But the person who enjoys it can
response to it in different ways depending on how he/ she has exposed to
the world of art. This response can be unique to each.

The type of music you listen to have a significant effect on you.
This can vary according to one's social background, level of education
in music, and their artistic taste. These reasons naturally make some
people like soothing, slow-paced melodies while others would prefer
high-pitch pop and rock.
In modern society, a lot of people tend to listen to music with a
strong beat, played loudly, obviously to get rid of emotional tension
and stressful lifestyle they are leading.
In contrast, centuries ago, though the advance compositions like Bach
48 preludes and fugues, and Beethoven 9 symphonies were not composed for
the masses as it should maintain its authenticity, people used to enjoy
classical music, because they were much freer from overheated financial,
social and career stresses. They could afford the luxury of enjoying
music in a relaxed, serene environment.
Since the 'ruthless' invasion of market-driven consumerism was
unleashed worldwide, peoples' lifestyles drastically changed. They have
turned to be less human and more mechanical as having had to join the
competitive world. This traumatizing condition has left them feeling
strained. Therefore such people naturally seek quicker relief in fast
moving music to release their pent up anxieties and frustrations.
The music industry shows us that the majority of people want to
please their visual senses rather than gratifying themselves with
soul-searching music that could heal the core of their being with the
effects of this 'universal language.' Clearly, high-tech visuals of
music clips can distract listeners' thoughts and feelings in a harmful
way as they focus on visuals. The outcome is that listeners end up
getting only momentary pleasure and unfortunately there won't be
anything left in their hearts to vividly remember and derive delight as
from a quality piece of music.
The interaction of music from childhood to adulthood to old age,
benefits individuals to enhance their sensitivity in human life. When an
individual understands the essence of a musical composition, the outcome
is she/ he becomes sensitive to emotions and outer world. According to
the "Mozart effect," listening to Mozart could have positive effects on
reasoning out facts and processing information in brain. Not only
Mozart, any kind of soothing music with flowing melodies, influences to
create a serene atmospheres and as a result human mind becomes more
relaxed and calm. When slow music decreases our heart rate, fast music
increases it. Though many like fast music, they are unaware of the fact
that it makes them tense at the end.
The nature of music is expression of emotions which cannot be
described by words. Scientists have found that a foetus in a womb is
always exposed to outer world sounds and appropriate music boosts its
neurological development positively.
Therefore soothing music is an important phenomenon for the
development of a child since it's stimulation for a child to understand
the message more clearly than describe the message in words. The tone of
the sound or music can convey the message to the child in a profound
manner.
Listeners do not need special music literacy and intelligence to
understand popular music as it is out of analysis and intellectual
understanding. Unconsciously, the listeners become robots, dance to the
beat which is delivered by machines and receive and grab without
questioning and analyzing what they hear. The rhythm and melodies are
uncomplicated; it does not enhance creativity, sensitivity, imagination
of the listeners as the structure of that genre doesn't contain a
concrete base.
Therefore positive impulse for standard music must develop from
childhood. The instinct for quality music moves with us throughout our
life from birth to tomb. Anyone can move to a popular catchy beat and it
even can be swallowed during our sleep. But the hardest task is to
develop the instinct for standard music and be analytical on what we
listen to.
We should understand that music is the purest form of expression of
human beings much more than a marketing tool. Music has to be always
pleasant to listen to. Banging and thumping and incredible speed do not
produce healthy experiences either for the performer or the listener.
The time has come to motivate children to listen to proper musical
compositions and not trash, which we hear in our day to day life. |
